Me, to my dad (aka parking/landlord): Did you know Bill at (local auto place) has an Edsel w
agon?
My dad: I think I saw it. The answer is please no.

“Don’t buy that large quirky Classic F ord!” said the Galaxie owner.

Just look at the beauty and grace!
Ok, maybe not so much but it’s kitchy as hell.

The Galaxie man’s dad is a Chevy man but also also a Rover man.
It’s weird and inconceivable that he thinks a Ford sedan, a Lincoln hardtop, a Ford ute, and an Edsel wagon would be too much Dearborn in one place.
Said local car place also has a ‘67 fullsize fastback.

T
he Villager wagon
is a ‘59 like that
, so not on the eyes-bleeding level of a ‘58.

Edsel Wagons are cool though. Saw this '58 Villager at a car show last year and loved it.

I read “please no” as “goddamnit, maybe?”.

Yeah, those earlier Edsel grills were unbelievably bad (seriously, who approved that mess?) but this one doesn’t reach those heights.

That is also a very choice ‘62 Falcon. What the hell is it powered by, though?

If I had an extra eight grand (or whatever he’s asking, haven’t actually stopped by) I might be tempted to Damn The Torpedoes, Full Sperg Ahead. Since I don’t, I therefore probalo shouldn’t.
Meanwhile, me on Edsel fender:

I can’t remember what the owner told me. Pretty sinister though. And I’m an idiot. That’s obviously a Bermuda, not a Villager.

I was wondering if it was a Subaru, because whatever it is has two intake manifolds(?)
and is wide and low
. I also assume he’s got Mustang II front suspension, because the original shock towers/fender liners are not still present.

I probably shouldn’t tell you that the one my buddy found is/was $4,000 and looked pretty decent other than faded paint...

It was the same problem as the ‘58-60 Lincoln styling: they anticipated the wrong cues, and too far out. They tried to pull a “throwback” ‘30s narrow grill to look classy like a Facel Vega or Jaguar, and faceplanted.
Beaks and narrow grills became popular at the end of the ‘60s, but late ‘50s? No.

A V8 with a DIY intake.

That’ll teach me to not bother zooming.

So, it’s basically this, right - ‘59 Villager ? I mean, you gotta ask about it at least. Which could lead to trouble...

It is just like that, except colored more like this:
Not quite that green, though. Bluer. More like the color you see some ‘58s in.
I
’ll try to get down there some time this week and take pictures.

More this then, probably - this color scheme suits a late ‘50s car better than the one I posted anyways.
